Emma Paton’s Tips on How to Wear Pink
Emma Paton shares her styling tips on how to add a pop of pink to your outfit this season.

We caught up with Suffolk-based lifestyle and fashion blogger Emma Paton about her favourite colour – pink! With a wealth of fashion knowledge, Emma’s top styling tips are rose-tinted jewels of wisdom that will brighten up your wardrobe all year round.

Pink! My favourite colour! Bubblegum, strawberry, blush, rose, magenta, coral… There are so many different shades out there. It’s a modern staple, and I have plenty of pink in my wardrobe as it makes me feel happy.
I find it can be universally flattering, giving a warmth to your skin tone which makes you look healthy and glowing – which is certainly needed for this time of year! I also find it a romantic, fun, and playful colour and there are so many different ways you can incorporate it into your daily wardrobe. It’s about finding the right tone of pink for you and also working out what to wear it with.
As a general guide, they say warm pink (pinks with a yellow undertone such as peach, apricot, flamingo, coral, copper, rose gold or salmon) will suit those who have a warm or golden skin undertone better. Whilst cool pinks (baby pink, rose, fuchsia and magenta through to plum tones) are better for those with bluer skin undertones. But I say have a play around and see what you like as rules are there to be broken!

I often treat pink as a warmer neutral with endless colour, texture, and print combinations. I like to wear it with traditional neutrals such as khaki, cream, camel, and denim. It also works well with burgundy tones in the winter months (I like to embrace the burgundy tights and boots!). Don’t forget that you can think about accessories and footwear to help tie your look together.
Pink and red (or even a bright orange) together are also a modern way to wear pink and a brilliant way to embrace some colour clash. You can try to achieve it in blocks of colour rather than with print, too. If you want something more tonal, then use pink as a highlight or accent colour (think a pink coat, a bright pink belt or bag). Layering varying shades of pink — such as fuchsia pink and a pale pink — can create a complementary, tonal outfit. The lighter shade softens the look, while the brighter shade acts as the highlight.

Play around with the unexpected – a pink linen shirt (this is the Fouracre Shirt) sits fabulously with gingham feather PJs for a fun at–home look. It would also work tucked in or out of high waist trousers, shorts and jeans. Equally, how gorgeous would this shirt be chucked on over your black swimwear on the beach?! Or, you can mix the girlie pink feel up with something like an oversized, charcoal grey menswear blazer over the top. I’ve buttoned up this Rose Pink Coombe Lane Jacket to wear as a top with some menswear–style wide leg trousers. A little bit of colour pop in the bag helps tie it all together.

If you are unsure of pink, print is a good way to introduce it into your wardrobe, and this vintage–inspired Dod Dress is like wearing a bouquet of pink flowers! I’ve also worn it with a pink textured knitted tank top and a denim jacket to make it more casual.

Have fun, be brave and let’s think pink for Spring!
