From Falmouth to Falmouth: Our First US Shop

The first ever US Seasalt shop has opened its doors in Falmouth, Massachusetts.

Our New Home in New England

On 14th September, we opened our first US shop. Falmouth is a seaside town in Massachusetts, one of the six beautiful New England states. It sits on the stunning Cape Cod coast which, like Cornwall, is known and loved for its sandy beaches and sweeping shorelines. Both the towns are lively and welcoming, with plenty of unique places to eat and shop.

Our new Main Street shop is in a traditional Cape Cod building, with wooden shingles and a gabled roof. Inside, we’ve used the same responsible approach to fittings as we do in our UK stores, while introducing our new customers to Cornish crafts and suppliers.

Seasalt Lite: Inside The Store

The light and airy interior is perfect for our new Seasalt Lite design concept, following the principles of flexibility, economy and sustainability. The instore fittings and furniture are made from birch plywood, chosen because it’s light and easy to reconfigure.

We’ve taken great care to source materials from sustainable sources, such as curtains made from post-consumer plastic. By cutting down our use of metal in our shop designs, we’re helping to reduce our overall carbon footprint.

Our Cornish Suppliers

We wanted to bring an authentic Cornish feel to our Falmouth MA shop, so we added Cornwall-made design details. Our distinctive feature pendant lights are handmade in Cornwall by Tom Raffield, using traditional steam-bending techniques. The wicker vases and lampshades are made by Lin Lovekin using Cornish-grown willow. Cassandra Weare, a potter from (the Cornish) Falmouth crafted the lovely display pottery.

From the changing room stools to linoleum surfaces, we’ve used responsibly sourced materials wherever we can. As well as giving a nod to our Cornish heritage, we’re looking forward to finding talented new Cape Cod artists and suppliers to work with.

Celebrating Our First US Store

We opened our doors with a day of celebration. The shop was beautifully decorated with paper flowers, handmade by local artist Nicole Bergeron and given out to our customers, while New England musician Randy McGravey added to the atmosphere with his live folk set.

The first 100 customers to shop in our new store received an exclusive gift. All shoppers could make the most of our free embroidery service to embellish their new clothes with our new Falmouth MA-inspired designs (a Cape Cod lighthouse and a New England fall leaf).

Our teams on both sides of the Atlantic have worked together to make this exciting new venture possible. We hope our new American customers enjoy #WearingSeasalt, and we can’t wait to follow the new US adventures @SeasaltCornwall.
