Hometown Guide: Aldeburgh
The Aldeburgh shop team share their tips on what to eat, drink and do in town.Aldeburgh is the perfect little seaside town. Hidden on the Suffolk coast, the vast pebble beach is backed by rural fields to the east and the Rive Alde to the west. In the middle, you’ll find Aldeburgh and its famously colourful villas.
The town is home to endless independent shops, cafes and galleries, which are perfect for meandering in and out of on a slow Sunday. Our Aldeburgh shop team know the spot better than any of us, so they’ve shared their recommendations for what to eat, drink and do.
Where to eat in Aldeburgh
There are so many lovely places to eat but one we all love is the Aldeburgh Market. The restaurant serves up delicious seasonal seafood-based dishes, and the deli is always full of fresh ingredients to pick from.
Where to get coffee in Aldeburgh
Two Magpies bakery is a lovely independent coffee shop, right next to our Seasalt Aldeburgh shop. Everything is freshly baked, from sweet treats and pastries to their famously fluffy bread. Sit in and enjoy or get your order to take away for a stroll along the beach front.
What to do in Aldeburgh
The 16th century Moot Hall is well worth a visit. It’s one of England’s best-preserved Tudor public buildings. Previously known as the Town Hall, it once housed several merchant shops but is now home to Aldeburgh Museum, where you can learn more about the town’s history and culture.
Where to walk in Aldeburgh
We have the beautiful River Alde (which everyone walks around), and we also love the ‘Aldeburgh to Thorpness’ route. It’s a short walk that follows the beach to the nearby town. The route takes you past the famous House in the Clouds and on to Thorpness, where you can enjoy a coffee and cake before heading back.
Next time you’re in Aldeburgh, you can find our shop on the high street. Pop in and say hello to our friendly team, who’d be happy to provide more recommendations for your weekend in town.
