Make a Paper Snowflake Decoration
Every winter, our window display team carefully craft the festive decorations for our shops. Anna shares how to make this season’s paper snowflakes. It doesn't often snow in Cornwall. Most years, the salt winds and the Gulf Stream melt the ice before it can fall. When it does snow, the rarity and fleetingness of the occasion makes it all the more special.
It is this moment transient, transformative beauty – ice on the window, the crunch underfoot, the magic of rolling white hills – which inspires our winter collection this year. We've captured the delicate beauty of frosty mornings in geometric fair isles, and cut-glass patterns on our partywear. Bright, refracted winter light inspires bold golds and warm oranges.
Similarly, our window displays are a frozen moment, recreating a flurry of snow with carefully crafted paper snowflakes. Anna, from our window display team, shares how to create one yourself: a tangible memory of winter you can treasure for seasons to come.
Supplies
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Sewing machine or needle and thread
- Coloured card
- Tracing paper
- Scalpel
- Scissors
- Rubber
Method
1. Download and print out the snowflake template here
2. Using a pencil, trace around the shape onto a square of tracing paper
3. Flip your tracing paper onto a piece of coloured card and draw over the pencil marks you have made. Repeat this step so you have two snowflake shapes.
4. Using your scalpel, carefully cut both shapes out and any shapes inside. Rub away any pencil marks.
5. Place one shape on top of the other, so they match up. Then sew a straight line down the middle.
6. Unfold then thread a loop of string onto your shape to hang it up.
