We share the inspiration behind our latest collection.The warming sands and sunlit sea call out for days at the coast. Follow overgrown paths to hidden coves, glimpsed tantalisingly through the clifftop campion and alexanders.
It’s in these secret spots that we find inspiration for our prints and palette. Wave-carved rock forms inform bold patterns, while sea plants and dappled tidal pools add delicate touches.
Loose linens and cool cottons lead the way to the beach, and knits add gentle warmth when the sun goes down. Where will May’s adventures take you?
From the Sketchbook
Back in the studio, our designers draw on seashore finds to create swirling free-hand and painted patterns.
I was inspired by fronds of seaweed seen floating on the shorelines and rockpools in Cornwall. I wanted the print to feel bold and contemporary, so I initially sketched the shapes and then painted them with gouache to give them a painterly texture.
Rock formations and pebbles lead to large-scale prints, and naturally, our nautical stripes keep that classic seaside feel.
The sand and ocean colours are calm and cool, like trailing your fingers through a rockpool on a warm May day. Rich oarweed, purple thrift and golden dune grasses inspire vibrant accents.
