Meet the supplier: Brij Designs

A behind-the-scenes look at where our clothes are made and the partnerships that bring our products to life.

Here at Seasalt, we’ve always been committed to using organic cotton for our garments, and we’re proud of the fact that we became the first clothing company to have garments certified by the Soil Association as reaching the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). We’re now aiming for 100% of the cotton we use in our collections to be GOTS certified by the end of 2024.

To achieve this aim, we’re helping more of our suppliers gain GOTS certification. It’s why we’re proud to work with Brij Designs, which is based in India.

Like us, Brij Designs has a focus on community and innovation, and is committed to making beautiful products in quality fabrics that you’ll love and wear for seasons to come. We asked Bhuwan at Brij Designs to tell us about their work with Seasalt, and what makes the partnership so special.

“Founded in 2008, Brij Designs has grown in leaps and bounds since its inception. We are a forward-thinking apparel manufacturing business committed to the principles of sustainability, while ensuring uncompromising quality standards and timely delivery.

We work with clients from across the world and have three manufacturing plants in Gurgaon, India, where we manufacture garments and accessories. Our passionate team is made up of 370 employees, including a team of designers and managers with considerable experience in the fashion industry. At the same time, we work with artisans and embroidery specialists to bring our products to life.

Just like Seasalt, we believe in building long-term and strong relationships with our employees.

Our employees are an invaluable asset, and we invest in their learning and growth – both professionally as well as personally. We have ensured that all employees have medical insurance and have also been focusing on providing for the education of the children of our employees.

At a time when climate change is upon us, we are committed to doing everything we can to ensure sustainability, compliance and mindful business without damaging the environment. With this in mind, we decided to apply for and adhere to GOTS organic cotton certification.

We have developed considerable expertise in sustainable practices and sourcing environmentally friendly fabrics.

Our focus is on manufacturing premium quality, sustainable products rther than on mass-market, fast fashion goods.

We started working with Seasalt in 2011 and since then the range of products has grown from manufacturing garments to manufacturing accessories and also supplying organic cotton. Going forward, we are all set to deliver GOTS-certified products and continue to build on our relationship.

We love working with Seasalt – it’s a forward-thinking and forward-looking company that realises that transparency, supportive culture and professional services are essential for a successful collaboration. As pioneers of organic cotton, working with Seasalt has been a great learning experience for us, and we have been able to grow and develop ourselves through this collaboration.

During these tough times, despite the pandemic creating havoc, working with Seasalt has been a great experience. The open lines of communication with Paul Hayes, the CEO, and regular interactions with Vanessa Harrison, the director of sourcing, enabled us to get quick responses to all our queries or concerns. At a time when there were all kinds of delays and cancellations of orders, Seasalt stuck by their commitments and ensured there was no backtracking on anything that had been agreed upon.

The spirit of collaboration and support and the sense that we were all in this tough situation together has been a real blessing and made this partnership even stronger.”
