Our Favourite Winter Walks in the UK

Frosty fields, blustery beaches, dramatic cliffs and reviving sea dips.

The winter months in the UK always give a stark and dramatic beauty to the landscape, so it’s well worth wrapping up in something warm and waterproof to explore. We asked Seasalt team members from around the country to share their favourite places to go when there’s frost on the ground and a chill in the air…

East Sands in St Andrews, Scotland

A coastal out-and-back walk which takes in the ruins of the 450-year-old St Andrews Castle. Its furthest point, if the tide is right, is a stunning stretch of sand that leads down to the sea. If you’re brave enough, you can take a winter plunge – like Jo from our St Andrews shop in the picture above.

Sheringham to Weybourne in Norwich

Helen from our Norwich shop says: “This walk is a real favourite of mine, starting along the cliff at Sheringham then walking along the steam railway

“The walk then passes through Weybourne Heath, we stop at the seat that looks out to the sea and admire the windmills and wildlife as we go.  Always nice to stop towards the end and have a warming hot chocolate.”

Nash Point Lighthouse in Southerndown, Wales

“It has stunning views and wonderful beaches where you can find fossils,” says Gabby of this walk along rocky, stacked cliffs on the Welsh Coast Path. Tales of smugglers and shipwrecks come to life on blustery winter days.

Fistral Beach in Newquay, Cornwall

“Walking across beautiful Fistral Beach and around the headland coast path to Newquay harbour is my favourite local loop, even if it’s rainy and windy in the winter,” says Sarah from our Head Office.

“It’s part of the longer Fistral, Crantock and Newquay circular route. It’s especially beautiful on a crisp, sunny winter day – the sea views are amazing and it’s a good length to get your steps in.

“You can stop at Fistral Beach Bar or the Headland Hotel for a coffee or hot chocolate to warm up. It’s also a handy route because if you’re in town, you can start at the harbour and finish at Fistral Beach, or if you’re closer to Fistral you can start there and finish at the harbour. “
