The Seasalt Rainwear Care Guide 

At Seasalt, we know rain.

We make waterproofs you can rely on, designed with 45 years' experience of wild Atlantic weather. From raincoats and jackets to waterproof bags and hats, each wet-weather essential has been made to last with responsibly sourced fabrics and without environmentally harmful perfluorinated chemicals.

Over time, your waterproofs are exposed to a build-up of dirt and sweat that can hinder performance. With the right maintenance and care, you can keep your Seasalt rainwear performing at its best – so you can stay dry and comfortable, come rain or shine.  

• Brush off any thick dirt or debris by hand.
• Fasten any zips, velcro, pockets and snaps or poppers before washing.
• Never use fabric softeners or bleach on Seasalt rainwear. Instead, we recommend using Nikwax Tech Wash®.
• Machine wash when dirty at 30°C, following the specific guidance provided on the garment care label and the Nikwax Tech Wash® page.
• Make sure to spot test any detergents and wash products in a discreet area beforehand. To do so, apply a small amount of product to a hidden inner seam and blot with a clean cloth after a few minutes. Continue with washing if the fabric isn’t damaged or faded. 

• Air dry naturally on a flat surface to avoid any misshaping.  
• Make sure garments are fully dry before storing.
• Store in a cool, dry place. 

• Every few washes, follow your Nikwax Tech Wash® cleaning cycle with another for re-proofing. Your garment needs to be clean for the product to work effectively.
• Add Nikwax TX Direct® to the detergent drawer, following the specific guidance provided on the bottle and the Nikwax TX Direct® page.
• Wash on a 30°C cycle on a slow spin.
• Dry as instructed. 

Our waterproof accessories are made using the same high-performance waterproof technology as our coats. To keep them in top shape, we recommend following the steps above, always checking the care label before washing. 

Our specially designed, waterproof fabrics are made using recycled fibres or traceable organic materials and PFC-free coatings. PFCs, otherwise known as ‘Forever Chemicals’, take generations to break down in nature, which is why we never use them in our waterproof collections. 

When caring for your waterproofs, it's important to use reputable products specifically designed for rainwear.

We recommend Nikwax Tech Wash®, an easy-to-use, waterproof-specific detergent that gently cleans your raincoat while revitalising water repellence and breathability. For re-proofing, we also recommend using Nikwax TX Direct® every few washes to renew and restore the water-repellent layer.
