Merchandising Systems Analyst (6 month contract)

As a Merchandising Systems Analyst you’ll be an Excel guru, responsible for carrying out a programme of upgrades to existing Microsoft Excel-based Merchandising tools, including Allocation & Replenishment, Purchase Order Management and Range/Assortment Planning.

You’ll create new Excel-based tools to provide new functionality within Merchandising, and support with the implementation of new data sources, amending tools to draw on data from a new Data Platform, severing links to legacy data warehouse sources.

Please note this is a 6 month temporary contract, which is based remotely within the UK, with occasional travel to our Cornwall head offices.

You’ll help us by:

To support our future growth plans, you’ll update and enhance our Excel-based tools to provide future proof functionality, include VBA code, PowerPivot Data Models, and links to Microsoft Access Databases (including some use of SQL code). Working autonomously and alongside the Head of Commercial Operations, you will make these changes, test, deploy and document the tools.

You’ll migrate existing tools to a new data source for our Merchandising team, which includes access to sales, stock and additional data from a number of sources (primarily our Data Warehouse) supported with a collection of source files and databases.

Working from a brief from the Head of Commercial Operations, you’ll build new Excel tools and reports, importing external data and, where appropriate, automating elements of their use using VBA to provide a great end-user experience for these tools. In addition to this, you’ll test, deploy and document any new tools.

 

The skills you’ll be sharing with the team:

 

  • Excellent working knowledge and experience of Excel.
  • Great understanding of data manipulation and presentation – with experience of PowerPivot Data Modelling.
  • Intermediate understanding of VBA – ability to automate processes across Microsoft applications.
  • Understanding of SQL script – the ability to import and export data between Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access using SQL.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Access database structure and queries.
  • Creative problem solver with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience of working in a retail merchandising/ distribution function would be a bonus, but not essential.
  • Great communication and presentation skills.
  • Able to proactively build productive relationships with people at all levels of the business.
  • Ability to manage own priorities and workload, delivering within deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, able to work autonomously.

Working within our multi-disciplinary Data & Analytics Delivery Teams in collaboration with the business and Data & Analytics colleagues you’ll develop and construct data products and services and integrate them into systems and business processes. You’ll support the design and implementation of data flows/pipelines to connect operational systems, data for analytics and business intelligence systems.

 

This is a full-time, permanent role and can be based remotely within the UK, with occasional travel to our Cornwall head offices (approx. 6 times per year).

 

We can consider the role as a part-time position of 30 hours per week.

You'll help us by:

Providing data profiling and source system analysis, presenting insights to colleagues to support the end use of data. You’ll be communicating between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

 

Designing, building and testing data products and data integration services, including the data warehouse or data lake. Translating and integrating business requirements into the analytics architecture by working closely with Data & Analytics colleagues and the business. Developing ELT/ETL scripts/routines to facilitate the movement of data across the business’ full analytics architecture. Designing and implementing ELT/ETL procedures for intake of data from both internal and external sources, ensuring data exceptions/rejections are identified.

 

Understanding the impact of emerging trends on the organisation in data tools, analysis techniques and data usage. Delivering appropriate technologies to deliver resilient, scalable, and future-proofed data solutions, following guidance on good practice analytics architecture development and design. Producing and updating data models, applying industry recognised patterns and standards.

 

Responding to problems in databases, data processes, data products and services as they occur. Initiate actions monitor services and identify trends to resolve problems.

 

Working with our data architecture, senior data engineering and data governance teams to understand our standards and best practice guidelines and provide inputs to enable their continuous improvement. Creating and maintaining appropriate levels of documentation to enable knowledge share and future support of products created.

 

Testing outputs and products to the appropriate quality level and where possible create automated, repeatable tests. Validate and document outcomes prior to releasing to users.

 

Provide end-user support and training for the data products that your team creates.

 

Continuously develop yourself and your team. Keep abreast of industry developments and best practice.

As our Designer – Dresses - you’ll develop authoritative, distinctive & creative products that are profitable and sustainable to excite and delight our customers, whilst reinforcing Seasalt brand values and brand handwriting within the woven and jersey range.

 

You’ll bring new ideas and be fully responsible and accountable for your assigned products from initial concept to PO sign-off. You’ll have support from the Senior Designer and the Design Administration Assistant, but you will be sketching artwork, creating CADs, sourcing swatches, putting together tech packs, keeping factories on track, and ensuring prototypes are reflective of the initial concept.

 

This role is offered as a part-time position of 30 hours per week on a contract of up to 12 months to cover maternity leave.

In our blended approach to hybrid working, we expect our people to work a minimum of 3 days of their week in the Seasalt Office in Cornwall, this ideally would include a Tuesday and Thursday. The remaining 2 days will be from home (or your chosen location – however, you must be based in the UK)'

You'll help us by:

Working closely with the Design team and your Product Team to ensure the product reflects the key Design messages and the departmental strategy.  The range is without gaps or duplication and is logically, commercially, and creatively thought through.

Understanding the Seasalt customer but able to bring new ideas and a new approach. Interpreting & reporting trends in a way that is relevant to the Seasalt collection – demonstrating a clear ability to edit and identify opportunities. Gathering and presenting organised aspirational product research that demonstrates creativity and a strong aesthetic.

Working with a colour palette. Ensuring the print aesthetic and fabric construction are appropriate so the prototype is right the first time. Demonstrating the ability to risk analyse and ensure production limitations & MOQs are considered.

 

Leading fit meetings. Demonstrating a good eye for proportion & fit, handle & drape, and how to achieve this.

Managing an effective and timely product development and sign-off process, appropriate for product lead time. Ensure documentation and systems are complete and accurate at all critical stages in a prompt and timely manner, enabling other functions to complete tasks on time.

Working together with your Product Team, and the Product Marketing Team to convey key information & ensure the product is accurately marketed to the customer.

Managing and actively developing your direct reports: support and identify training needs & managing performance: coaching and mentoring members of the team. Being supportive, enabling effective team working.

 

The skills you'll be sharing with the team:

  • Appropriate Professional Qualification Design/Fashion Degree.
  • Excellent IT and CAD skills (Adobe CS6, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Industry experience working with Far and Near East suppliers.
  • Strong relevant portfolio.
  • Knowledge of garment construction
  • Ability to strongly interpret trends into design/product for the Seasalt customer and move the range on ensuring it reflects appropriate trends
  • Appetite for Product and a good commercial eye.

  • Understanding production processes, minimum order quantities, limitations to design.

Senior Commercial Finance/FP&A Manager

As our Senior Commercial Finance/FP&A Manager you’ll be responsible for the design, development and delivery of FP&A processes and business partnering. The role leads the budgeting, forecasting and strategic planning processes, driving commercial decision-making and providing insight and accounting across all sales channels and for related marketing costs.

This role offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with our Director of Finance, wider Finance team and key stakeholders across the business, building excellent working relationships. You’ll lead a highly engaged, proactive and forward-thinking team, demonstrating cross-departmental working and a willingness to support peers and colleagues.

Please note that whilst the preference for the role is to be based in Cornwall, this role can also be based within the South West of the UK, with weekly travel to our Cornwall head offices.

You’ll help us by:

Commercial Finance

 You’ll provide actionable insights from detailed financial analysis, building models based on operational requirements to enhance decision making. Collaborating with stakeholders, you’ll review functional and channel P&Ls, conduct investment appraisal, ROI analysis, and margin and cost analysis at channel level, supporting key projects to drive profitability.

Reporting

You’ll oversee timely reporting and forecasting across our business, covering monthly deliverables (KPIs, cash flow forecasting, covenant reviews), daily and weekly performance reports, monthly functional and channel P&Ls, marketing cost accruals, and retail staff headcount and cost analysis.

 

Business Partnering 

 Leading monthly reforecasting and variance analysis, you’ll foster finance business partnering within the team, maintaining monthly meetings with business areas to ensure accurate reporting, and to create a rolling monthly reforecast based on previous assumptions.

Budgets and Forecasts

You’ll drive the timetable and deliverables for the annual budget cycle and quarterly reforecasts, closely partnering with the Board. Collaborating with Finance teams, you’ll gather timely deliverables across the P&L and balance sheet, preparing presentation decks, commentary, walks and analytics. You’ll ensure the strategy and financial plan is aligned to meet corporate EBITDA targets and banking covenants.

 

Strategy 

Driving the corporate strategy in conjunction with the Executive Team, you’ll facilitate workshops, produce meaningful outputs and monitor the implementation of the 3-year plan business model and plan.

 

The skills you’ll be sharing with the team:

  • Fully qualified ACA, CIMA or ACCA (or equivalent).
  • Finance business partnering experience.
  • A thorough understanding of budgeting, forecasting and detailed analysis and the ability to forecast cash flows.
  • Able to influence to drive strategic decision making.
  • Experience creating and leveraging information and data to provide meaningful presentations and reports which can be used to support critical decision making.
  • Experience of leading and developing a team together with managing workflows.
  • Experience engaging with and presenting to senior level stakeholders up to and including Board level.
  • Experience of promoting and developing financial acumen in non-financial business leaders.
  • Demonstratable analytical skills, process mindset, critical thinking and an eye for detail
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Well organised, proven ability to work in a fluid, fast-paced environment.
  • Finance transformation experience would be desirable, as would FP&A experience in a multi-channel/multi-functional environment.
